Learning Through Real Business Scenarios
We've spent years working directly with Australian businesses—from Sydney retail operations to Queensland manufacturing firms. That hands-on experience shapes how we teach profitability analysis. You're not getting textbook theory. You're learning the techniques we actually use when consulting with real clients facing genuine financial challenges.

Bryce Kavanaugh
Bryce worked as a management accountant for manufacturing firms across NSW for twelve years before switching to education. He's particularly good at explaining variance analysis in ways that click—probably because he's dealt with confused production managers who just wanted straight answers. His workshop sessions tend to run long because people keep asking follow-up questions.

Stellan Öberg
Originally from Sweden, Stellan brings a different perspective to financial analysis that our Australian participants find refreshing. He spent years analyzing retail operations for European chains before relocating to Melbourne. What makes him effective? He doesn't assume you already know the basics. If something's unclear, he'll draw it on the whiteboard until it makes sense.
Case Studies From Actual Australian Businesses
Most financial training uses sanitized examples. We don't. Our case studies come from real businesses we've worked with—names changed, of course. That Brisbane café with seasonal cash flow problems? That's a real case. The Sydney logistics company struggling with overhead allocation? We consulted on that in 2023.
You'll work through messy data sets and incomplete information, because that's what real financial analysis looks like. And when you get stuck—which everyone does—we're there to walk you through it.
- Work with actual financial statements and operational data from Australian businesses
- Learn to spot profitability issues before they become critical problems
- Practice presenting findings to non-financial stakeholders who need clear recommendations
- Understand Australian reporting standards and tax implications that affect analysis decisions

How The Program Actually Works
Financial Statement Analysis
You'll learn to read between the lines of balance sheets and P&L statements. We focus on what numbers actually tell you about business health—not just how to calculate ratios.
Cost Behavior Patterns
Fixed costs, variable costs, and everything in between. Most businesses don't understand their own cost structure. You'll learn to map it out and identify where profitability actually happens.
Margin Analysis Methods
Product margins, service margins, customer margins. Different businesses need different approaches. We'll show you how to determine which analysis matters most for specific situations.
Break-Even Modeling
When does a business actually start making money? Sounds simple, but most owners can't answer it accurately. You'll build models that account for multiple products, seasonal variation, and capacity constraints.
Variance Investigation
Budget versus actual—where things get interesting. You'll learn systematic approaches to finding where profitability went wrong and what management can actually control.
Reporting Frameworks
Creating reports that busy executives will actually read and understand. We'll cover dashboard design, narrative reporting, and how to present recommendations without drowning people in spreadsheets.

Small Groups, Practical Focus
We keep cohorts small—usually twelve to fifteen participants. That's intentional. Everyone gets individual attention when working through case studies. And honestly, larger groups make it harder to have those valuable sidebar conversations where real learning happens.
Sessions run Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings starting September 2025. Most participants are accountants looking to specialize, business advisors wanting deeper analytical skills, or managers who realize they need to understand the numbers better.
Three-hour workshops combining instruction with hands-on analysis work using spreadsheets and actual data sets
Email questions anytime between sessions—we typically respond within 24 hours with detailed explanations
All case studies, templates, and reference materials provided—you'll build a practical toolkit you can use immediately
Sessions held at our Jannali training space with parking available—also accessible via train from Sydney CBD
